Summary:
Dr. Crowe has focused his career on creating the technology necessary to open the terahertz portion of the electromagnetic spectrum for scientific, military and commercial exploitation. He leads the research team that developed and fabricated the best GaAs Schottky barrier diodes for scientific applications including radio astronomy, plasma diagnostics and studies of the chemistry of the upper atmosphere, including the diodes used on the highly successful Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite, as well as a number of DoD and European remote sensing satellites. The integrated diode technology now being developed is opening the way for greater levels of system integration and increased reliability, making possible a host of new applications in this critical frequency range.
Background:
Dr. Crowe received the B.S. degree (Physics) from Montclair State College (NJ) and the M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia. He joined the faculty in March of 1986, and was promoted to Research Professor in 1997. Since January of 1989 he has been the Director of the Semiconductor Device Laboratory and in 1996 he was elected Director of the Applied Electrophysics Laboratories. Dr. Crowe is a founder and President of Virginia Diodes, Inc.
