Summary
Professor Farnoud is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia. His interests include information theory, bioinformatics/computational biology, and machine learning. He particularly gravitates towards problems that lie in the intersections of these areas, such as ordinal data fusion and its application to gene prioritization, mathematical and information-theoretic modeling of DNA mutations, compression of biological sequences, and sorting algorithms for large data streams. He also works on rank modulation codes for flash memories with higher data density, faster reprogramming, and longer life span.
Background
Professor Farnoud was a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech. He received his Ph.D. in ECE from UIUC in 2013. He also received an M.Sc. in mathematics from UIUC in 2012 and an M.Sc. in ECE from the University of Toronto in 2008.
