Seen from the second terrace of Bayon, one is devoured by a sea of enigmatic smiling faces that combine divine spirituality with feminine sensuality. In all, a total of 54 spires sporting 4 faces each add up to over 200 faces staring at you from all directions. Ever get the feeling you're being watched?

Approaching the Bayon temple, now in a state of crumbling decadence

Guarding lions at the entrance to the open walkway, with Naga serpents guarding the balustrades in the background Collapsed corridors create an ethereal canopy of light and shade, with breathtaking vignettes at every corner and surprises on every other flagstone
Apsaras on many of the pillars at Bayon

Some of the access stairs between terraces are incredibly steep, but have been recently upgraded with wooden stairways built atop the originals.
The collapsed wallless corridors allow one to explore the temple in a haphazard manner -- kind of like zipping through a video game level using a cheat code. The incredibly narrow space between the upper terrace and the lower gallery. Just imagine searching for a holy grail among ruins in a mythical lost city
