Stairway to Heaven - Borobudur

The 9th century Sailendra dynasty Mahayana Buddhist temple of Borobudur in Central Java is the world's largest Buddhist temple. The temple is built of nine stacked platforms representing three spiritual levels - Kamadhatu (desire), Rupadhatu (forms) and Arupadhatu (formless). The temple consists of over 2500 relief panels and 500 Buddha statues.

The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.

Walking amidst the Borobudur stupas at sunrise is an out-of-world experience.
