One of the most picturesque bridges in the world, rivaled perhaps by the chapel bridge in Lucerne, Ponte Vechhio in Florence and Rialto bridge in Venice, the Charles bridge crosses the river Vltava, connecting the lesser town with old town. Built by King Charles IV in the mid 1300s, the bridge was an important trade route between Western and Eastern Europe. It is also distinguished by 30 baroque statues erected along its length.
