The architecture of a city is its DNA, its very soul. Dublin combines medieval Celtic heritage with modern designs. Umbrella lane above is a start.
Dublin has a lot of Victorian facades all over Fitzwilliam and Merrion square, south east of St Stephen's Green. The story goes that when Queen Victoria died and the Irish were told to paint their doors black in mourning, they colored them in protest. A saltier version stated that women folk painted their doors differently so their drunk husbands would not end up inadvertently in the wrong bed.
Along with modern buildings, we have medieval churches such as St Patrick's church, Christchurch and Dublin castle.
An early morning walk is a good way to feel the pulse of the city..
