Completely landlocked by the city of Rome, the Vatican is the smallest sovereign principality in the world and the seat of the Papal power. It has an ecclesiastical government with Roman Catholicism as the State religion and is ruled by clergymen. Within a mere 44 hectare area, this nation has its own post office, bank, coins, stamps, internet, supermarket, railway station, power plant, publishing house and ATMs (with Latin instructions!). Given its small resident population but large tourist influx, it also has the highest per capita crime rate in the world!
