Perched conveniently at the confluence of Lake Zurich and River Limmat, the metropolis of Zurich brings to mind outdoor cafes, expensive jewellery shops, pinstriped bankers and steepled churches strewn around a city crisscrossed by busy trams. Much has changed since my last visit in 1983 - notably, the emergence of Turkish kebab shops and other ethnic restaurants, and the profusion of Arab tourists and Chinese students.
