The Red City of Marrakech

Weaving in and out of the countless red alleys is part of the charm of the city. Much of the buildings were made of beaten clay by the Almohads in the 12th century (Moroccans call it "Al Hamra" or Red City), and now an urban edict mandates this color across the medina and even outside.

Colorful palace gardens, spices on display, numerous stray cats, and hamams add a distinct character to the city.
