Built in 1394 by King Taejo, the Joseon founder, and reconstructed in 1867, Gyeongbok Palace is the largest and most impressive creation of the Joseong kings. Translated as "Palace Greatly Blessed by Heaven", the palace originally covered a sprawling 410,000 square meters with 330 buildings and 5792 rooms. Only 40% of those remain following the Japanese invasion.
